Hoppers to fight another day
Rennie has scored a convincing 52-point victory over Berrigan in the elimination final at Yarroweyah on Sunday.
The Hoppers are hoping to repeat last year’s premiership glory as the underdogs.
Looking to win every final this year Rennie, who have recruited some class late in the season, will now play the Deniliquin Rovers to stay alive and continue their premiership path.
In the Elimination Final on Sunday, the Hoppers were good early winning the clearances and the run of Tempany and inside work of Bigger and Fountain created options of which coach Ednie kicked two goals for the term.
With a defence on top the Hoppers grabbed an early 21-point break on the Saints at quarter time.
The second term ebbed and flowed as Rennie’s defence led by Hargreaves and Wolfe were outstanding and with Runnalls kicking two the Hoppers could have blown it apart but the Saints rallied, pressure caused turnovers and the game was in the balance with Rennie up by 17.
An early goal to Berrigan was followed by 10 minutes of nail biting football as neither side grabbed any advantage.
Hoppers clicked late and two goals to Ferguson and Strawhorn as part of a six-goal burst had Rennie out by 48.
With most of the sting gone the final term saw only three goals kicked as Rennie were happy to eke out the victory.
Hoppers now play Deni Rovers in the elimination semi-finals. Reserves

The two’s always looked the better team but Jerilderie kept on having a crack and it was only late the Hoppers slipped themselves to win by 32 points in the elimination final.
