Wendy Dickson on golf board
The sole female director on Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s Board of Directors will bring a wealth of financial knowledge to the board.
Wendy Dickson was given a rousing reception when YMGCR President Gil Cunningham announced, at the club’s Annual General Meeting on October 25, she was elected to the board.
An outstanding sportswoman, Wendy completed a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting in 1994, became a Certified Practising Accountant in 1997 and is studying parttime, by correspondence, a Bachelor of Law, with eight subjects to complete.
Taking a break from golf in 2005, she played representative croquet and soared on the state and national scenes.
Wendy has represented Victoria several times, has been vice-captain and captain of state tams, and has represented Australia in many world championships.
Her highlights are the inaugural golf croquet Trans Tasman team in 2015 and the World Teams Championship in England in 2016 which Australia won.
Both her parents are life members of Bacchus Marsh West Golf Club.
How does the first woman director for some five years since Margaret Hauser feel about her additional role? “I’m looking forward to the challenge and reining them in!” the 45-year-old answered the Yarrawonga Chronicle, tongue in cheek.
“It’s a great opportunity. I believe I can make a valuable contribution to our great club.”
Wendy is now back playing golf, off a handicap of 20 – not far from her lowest handicap of 18 – and also playing croquet.
“The facilities here are just wonderful, for all three codes – golf, bowls and croquet,” she said.
Wendy replaces Ian Cooksey who did not seek re-election and was an apology from last Thursday’s AGM. “The board is looking forward to working with Wendy,” Mr Cunningham said.
Mr Cooksey served two years as director. “Ian runs a business, is a sole business proprietor, hasn’t missed a meeting (attended all 13 meetings during 2017/18), we wish him all the best and thank him for his services,” the president said.
