The A-Reserve Lakers have suffered their first loss of the season in a top of the table clash against Ovens Valley United.
On the road for the first time this year, the Lakers headed into the hills for an exciting clash with fellow undefeated team Ovens Valley United.
Stand in captain Brendan Lewis lost the toss, and the Lakers were again asked to bat first. Brendan Hill opened the batting with his fourth partner in four rounds, joined in the middle by youngster Jacob Bartlett. Yarrawonga Mulwala managed to bat out their 36 overs, posting a competitive 7 for 149 for the home side to chase.
Brendan Lewis’s rich vein of form continued, posting 35 before being dismissed, with contributions from Sam Lidgerwood and Jacob Bartlett as well.
Ovens Valley put on a 70 run stand for the opening wicket, before veteran Gary Brown- ing collected two quick wickets to get the Lakers back into the contest. Browning finished with figures of 3 for 24 from his 8 overs to again be the pick of the bowlers.
Unfortunately, the efforts of Browning were in vein, as the OVCC was able to chase down the Lakers score, finishing 5 for 154 from their 36 overs.
A-Reserve are on the road again in Round 5 and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways quickly against Delatite.
