In a clash of tra­di­tional ri­vals, Yar­ra­wonga Mul­wala has de­feated the ever strong Rovers Bruck by 10 runs.

Play­ing for the first time in the sea­son at Stan Har­g­reaves Oval in Yar­ra­wonga; the turf was a bless­ing for both teams.

Win­ning the toss, Cap­tain Sharp sent Rovers Bruck into bat.

Vet­eran open­ing part­ners Ash­ton and El­liott were tested by break­away quick Nick Irvine who had them duck­ing and div­ing.

With the score on 42, Irvine re­moved the dan­ger­ous El­liott for just 4 and then Ja­son Sharp into the at­tack had Ash­ton plump LBW for 36 and the score at 2 for 46.

Irvine struck again send­ing An­der­son back to the pavil­ion for 8.

The Lak­ers were able to bowl tight lines for long pe­ri­ods but any­thing loose was hit to the bound­ary with 16 fours in a to­tal of 6 for 119. Sharp had 2 for 8 off 8 overs; Irvine 2 for 22 off 8; Ned Mullins 1 for 24 off 8 in his re­turn to cricket.

The chase for vic­tory be­gan with Rod Willett and Dave True and they ne­go­ti­ated six overs be­fore True was dis­missed for 6 runs.

Tom Irvine came to the crease and tried to lift the run rate against qual­ity bowl­ing.

Willett got to 10 be­fore he was dis­missed with the score on 22.

Ned Mullins hit 7 runs be­fore fall­ing with the score on 3 for 36 and the team need­ing a part­ner­ship.

Tom Irvine made 13 runs be­fore fall­ing and the Lak­ers were tee­ter­ing at 4 for 45.

Nick Irvine was joined by Justin Lidger- wood and they knocked the ball into the gaps; while Irvine also dis­played power with 10 bound­aries in­clud­ing two mas­sive sixes over the picket fence.

Lidger­wood made 15 in a part­ner­ship of 40; when he fell with the score at 5 for 85.

Irvine again took con­trol in a part­ner­ship with Tom El­liott.

Although El­liott was dis­missed with­out scor­ing; he was in­volved in a match win­ning part­ner­ship with Irvine of 23 runs from four overs.

With El­liott’s dis­missal, the Lak­ers need two runs for vic­tory; Irvine saw the team pass the Rovers Bruck to­tal but fell with the score on 123 and Irvine with the match­ing win­ning in­nings of 65 runs.

The Lak­ers bat­ted through to be all out for 129 and se­cured a 10-run vic­tory.
