AROUND THE GREENS
On Thursday November 1 our Ladies Consistency Fours Tournament was held.
Unfortunately, it was an extremely hot day for the ladies. It was still an enjoyable day with everyone enjoying the lovely lunch put on by our members. Thanks go to Evelyn Calder, our Tournament Director and all the ladies and men that helped in so many ways. Winners on the day;
A Miles Team from YMGCR. 2nd N Edwards Team from Benalla. 3rd J Warfe’s Team from Cobram. Best last game Winners were – C Doherty’s Team from Cobram. Well done to all the winners.
Twilight Bowls started again on Thursday November 1. The inners were – J Borg, R Livingstone and P Baker. Runners Up - S Hutchinson and C McDonald. These games are on each Thursday, 6.30pm start for bowls with a sausage sizzle beforehand at 6pm. Come along and enjoy a sociable game of bowls.
Coaching is on each Friday starting at 3.15pm to help improve your skills. If you are having any problems, just see Tim and he will help you to sort them out.
Midweek Pennant Results
October 30, A1 played Corowa Services and Won with 2 rinks getting up.
B1 played YMGCR and had a very good Win with all 3 rinks getting up.
November 3, A1 played Chiltern and lost by 13 shots with only 1 rink getting up.
A3 played Corowa Civic and Won with 3 rinks getting up.
B2 played St James and Won with 2 rinks getting up.
Midweek Pennant is being played today November 7 due to Melbourne Cup day. Results for the past week
Monday October 29, Winners – B Batty and A Tomlinson. Runners Up – W Jenkins and D Ellis. Wednesday was the monthly Triples Tournament. Winners – I Brimblecombe’s Team. 2nd – R Tait, I Woods and D Carroll. 3rd – M Slown’s Team. Best 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th games were the teams of R McAuliff, M Riley, G McDonald and A Goudge.
Next week’s games are – Monday 2-4-2 and Wednesday Jackpot Triples. These games start at 12.30pm and names need to be down by 11am on the day.

All pennant teams were away this week. Tuesday pennant was played in good conditions:
A2 were at home to Moira and faced some very determined competition, however were in front when it mattered.
B1 were also at home to Benalla, tough competition on two rinks but an exceptional
Performance by our side on the third rink saw us come away with a strong win. Saturday
B2 were at home to YMGCR great bowls were played on all rinks with scores at a very interesting stage when the tea break was taken, our rinks seemed to settle quicker after the break eventually finishing with a good win.
B5 were also at home to Corowa Civic, once again scores were very interesting at the tea
Break, and became more interesting after the break with two of our rinks forging ahead and the third only scoring on one end after the break, however the team came away with the win.
A big thank you goes out to our catering duo, Helen Thurling and Jean Wheeler, who each
Saturday home games make sure everything is in order for the tea break, also to Anita Albert, who assisted Helen this week, as Jean was busy on the green.
A very big thank you also goes to Ged, our greenkeeper who continues to provide us with the most wonderful greens each and every week.
Our pennant selectors will meet each Tuesday after completion of the day’s competition to select teams for the next Saturday and Tuesday matches, team sheets will be on the notice board late Tuesday afternoon, please check the teams, if you find you have been selected and are unable to play contact John Thurling (57432368) straight away to advise him, so that alternative arrangements can be made.
Practice is on every Thursday from 3.30 all members need to make an effort to come to training, as our early pennant results show there is room for improvement and consistency.
The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a frantic time, with many people taking advantage of the break for a few days away, or even just catching up with family and friends before the Christmas rush is upon us. Bowls events this week have been adjusted to accommodate the busy week.
A request from selectors; if, for any reason, you need to withdraw from a team after it has been selected, and published on the teams boards, could you please notify the appropriate chairperson ASAP for changes to be made. Good bowling and stay healthy. - Midweek Pen- - Weekend Pen- Weekend Pennant – Round 4. Tungamah B1 travelled to Wangaratta where they were successful winning all 3 rinks. R Thomson’s team were 1 up at the afternoon tea break but scored 11 shots to 5 in the last 10 ends to win with 7 shots up 24/17.
S Flanagan’s team scored a 7 on the 7th end to put them in front but were down 6 at the break.
After the break Steve’s team more than doubled their score to win by 4 shots up 28/24. G Sampson’s team started out well with the game never in doubt winning by 23 shots up 32/9.
Overall another strong win to Tungamah 84/50 a great result, with Tungamah holding on to 2nd position on the ladder. Results Monday October 29

As it was the “Over Eighty’s” afternoon we had quite a good roll up, everyone enjoyed themselves, especially for the beautiful afternoon tea, for which we thank the Club.
