“Mas­sive” cod clas­sic ex­pected

Fine weather and close to 3,000 en­tries are ex­pected for this week­end’s 19th Yamaha Cod Clas­sic in Yar­ra­wonga Mul­wala.

Or­gan­iser Tony Bennett said with per­fect con­di­tions pre­dicted for the week­end this year’s event is look­ing to be the big­gest one for sev­eral years.

“We have just over 2,000 pre-reg­is­tra­tions and with the good weather we ex­pect any­where be­tween 700 and 900 reg­is­tra­tions on the week­end.

“It should be a mas­sive week­end for the towns,” Tony said.

An­glers from all parts of the na­tion will de­scend on Lake Mul­wala to com­pete in the popular event which will start on Fri­day and end Sun­day. The fish­ing com­pe­ti­tions start on Satur­day at 6.30am un­til 6.30pm and lucky door prizes will be drawn in the evening. Com­pe­ti­tion re­sumes on Sun­day at 6.30am un­til 10.30am with all the fish­ing prizes to be awarded at the com­ple­tion.

An­glers will be look­ing to share in a stag­ger­ing prize pool that to­tals in ex­cess of $150,000 in­clud­ing seven boat­ing pack­ages, the chance to spend 30 sec­onds in a ‘cash grab’ ma­chine, a list of ma­jor goods to long to men­tion along with 1000 plus mi­nor lucky door prizes.
