Love Your Sister stars
Samuel Johnson was welcomed to Mulwala Football Netball Club on Saturday night with open arms and a cold Jim Beam.
Samuel was in town as part of the Love Your Sister fundraiser which was organised by Prue McGlynn to raise money for cancer research.
Samuel lost his sister Connie to cancer last year and has promised to continue her legacy, which he has done in a large and fantastic way.
On Saturday night Samuel teamed up with local cancer battler Sharon Stevenson to make the audience more breast aware, all the while enjoying life and having a laugh which proved a huge success for all in attendance. These two-amazing people sure did deliver. Sharon shone throughout the evening, sharing her own story and treatments with the audience which was a lesson of information to everyone.
Samuel who is a funny and intelligent guy spoke of Connie’s journey, his own and what the future holds.
Both of these speakers and the feel of the night made Love Your Sister at Mulwala a top night.
To top it all off Lekeal Yarrawonga donated $5000 to the Love Your Sister cause with Le- keal owners Ken and Sharon Stevenson saying they try to support the cause wherever they can.
“I have Stage 4 Breast Cancer, with metastasis to my spine, so research dedicated to both curing cancer itself and improving the effectiveness of treatments is an absolute priority to us personally,” Sharon said.
“Love Your Sister donates 100% of its fundraising to The Garvan Institute of Medical Research and in particular to the Connie Johnson Breast Cancer Research Laboratory.
“They are doing amazing things with new and existing target medications and that is exciting for all of us.
“Also Love Your Sister is a strong advocate of women in general being far more breast aware.
“That is - becoming familiar with your breasts by self-examining regularly - so any changes in the breast are picked up as early as possible.
“So to make a donation of any size is critical to continuing this foundations great work.
“We’ve met Sam a couple of times and have been continually impressed by his and his family’s dedication to their cause and so we try to support it whenever and wherever we can.
“And we encourage anyone else to do the same.”
With the kindness of the $5000 cheque from Lekeal Yarrawonga, Love Your Sister at Mulwala’s current tally is sitting at a whopping $12,576.00 with donations remaining open until Friday, November 30.
Event Organiser Prue McGlynn was very pleased with the night and wanted to thank a number of people and organisations.
“Thank you to ClubMulwala for Sam’s accommodation and the Mulwala Football Netball Club for the venue and never-ending help,” Prue said.
“Thank you also to the people who bought raffle tickets, who donated money, who donated items, everyone who attended and all the people who supported me, you all know who you are.”
