AROUND THE GREENS
ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
A great week of bowls this week, good weather, and plenty of action on the greens.
Tuesday saw A2 at home to Benalla; this was the toughest contest of the season for our club.
We were given a lesson on all rinks which resulted in a resounding loss, we will need to improve before our next meeting with them. B1 were at home to Wareena Park, where they continued the good form with a sound win.
Saturday found both our teams at home to Corowa Services;
B2 had a close hard tussle all day with scores very close at the tea break, all rinks settled well after the break eventually scoring a solid win. B5 struck very tough competition, going down on two rinks and winning the third, with
enough shots to draw the day, good team result.
Further rounds of the Men’s single championship were played on Sunday with some great skills to the fore.
John Thurling and Mark Smith were 23 each on the last end with John drawing the shot to take out the match.
Cliff Morton and Peter Humphreys were 24 each on the last end, Cliff held two shots with Peter drawing in with his last bowl to take shot, two incredible matches of the highest standard.
But wait there is more; the Ladies played one game of their championship, with Kaye Smith and Margaret Pretty putting on a first class display.
Once again the scores were level at 23 each on the last end, Kaye eventually taking the win.
What a fantastic morning of bowls, of a very high standard, congratulation to all players.
We are just holding our own in pennant at the moment, with the results showing practice
is needed to ensure we improve and consistency over the second half of the season,
everyone can benefit from some extra time on the green.
The Christmas Party set down for Tuesday, December 11 is looking like one not to be missed. There is still room for more, so come along, support your club and have a great night.
The list is on the notice board.
Great contested semi-finals have been seen in the last week.
The Club Championship finals will be held on Sunday, December 16, starting at 10am.
In the Men’s final last year’s champion Gary Sanders will play against the formidable Ray Irvine, whilst Robyn Moore will take on last year’s champion Laureen Smith.
Will last year’s champions go back to back or will Ray or Robyn, or both spoil their thunder?
Everyone is invited to come along and witness the outcome.
The Ladies B Grade final is between Sue Evans and Marie Whitehead. It will be held on Thursday, December 6. Well done to both ladies for making it through to the final.
