Inner Wheel Changeover

-

Outgoing President Sandra Buckles opened the meeting by asking members to observe a minute’s silence in memory of club members Jenny Gowland and Elizabeth Barnes, who both passed away since the last changeover.

Sandra spoke of the difficulties that clubs faced during the last 12 months due to the Covid restrictions, border lockdowns etc.

When they couldn’t meet, club members stayed connected by emails, phone calls, zoom meetings and a fortnightly newsletter, “The Happy Money Herald”.

This was initiated, compiled and edited by Chris Seabridge but all members contributed to it by sharing photos, recipes, jokes, family news and puzzles.

Sandra referred to it as glue that held everyone together and kept them communicating.

Though restricted in fundraising this year, the club still managed to make donations to various projects and also donated money to assist many Australians who have been coping with natural disasters as well as the effects of Covid-19.

Sandra shared a story from a recent holiday, when she and husband Ian visited a 65000acre farm at Barcaldine QLD.

They met a family who had been recipients of donations the club had made to the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners and who had been so appreciative of the support they had received from strangers.

Sandra concluded by thanking the outgoing committee for all their work during the year, and all of the wonderful members who have such a ‘can do’ attitude; whether old members or new, they are all a great group to spend time with.

Sandra then inducted incoming President

Chris Seabridge and wished the new committee all the best for the coming year.

In her speech, Chris spoke of the pleasure of being able to meet again and share social activities after the disruptions of the last 18 months, while being aware that things could so easily change.

She said 2020 had reinforced the importance of family and friends and supporting each other was never more important than during the pandemic.

Chris then introduced the new committee for 2021/22 and said she was looking forward to a year will less restrictions and more activities.

The Inner Wheel Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala held their 44th annual changeover at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on July 8.
