Leagues in limbo

- BY EMMA PRIOR

With an announcement made that all of NSW would be put into a seven-day statewide lockdown during games last Saturday (August 14), local leagues are again scrambling with plans for the end of the season.

Both the Murray and Ovens and Murray Football Netball Leagues were to play one more home and away round before finals however with the lockdown originally announced to continue until midnight this Saturday, those rounds have been cancelled.

The two leagues held meetings with their boards and clubs on Monday night with the O&M contacting the Office of the CrossBorder Commissioner on Tuesday morning to clarify a number of aspects relating to the NSW Victoria border rulings.

At the time the Chronicle went to print, an announcement on the results of the clarification had not yet been made.

At the meeting on Monday night the O&M board produced a number of COVID plans with one option looking at playing the first week of finals over two weekends however confirmation will be made in coming days.

The Picola and District Football Netball League were also gearing up to start their finals campaign however following a meeting of clubs on Monday night, the PDFNL finals are put on hold for this weekend with another meeting to be held again early next week to re-access
