‘Kusch’ stranded on 332
The highly respected defender was to play his 333rd game last Saturday when the Roos were to host Myrtleford.
But with the NSW Government’s snap lockdown to last until this Sunday – as announced at 2.30pm on Saturday August 14 – it will be the first round of season 2022 when Kuschert becomes the third equal club record holder with Dennis Sandral and Darrell Spencer.
The Roos finished the interrupted 2021 on a high, defeating third placed Wang Rovers. The good news for Roos’ fans is that Kuschert will play on in season 2022, which will see him become the outright club game record holder in the second round.
Record games holder for Yarrawonga, Xavier Leslie who has announced his retirement from senior football but will remain a reserves player for 2022, described Kuschert as “a great player and fellow”.
“‘Kusch’ is a great competitor who has played at a very high level for a long period of time,” Leslie, who beat the late Ken (Pascoe) Ellis’ record of 265 games last year and has just over 300 games with the Pigeons, said.
“He’s still having an impact which shows his sustained professionalism. He has shown his loyalty as the club had plenty of lean years. For him to stay loyal for a long period shows his true character and no doubt Corowa Rutherglen football Netball Club is very thankful for that.”
Yarrawonga’s neighbouring Corowa football legend Kade Kuschert will have to wait until next season to join two other club legends as equal games record holder for Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club.
