MP meets with Mulwala people

- BY ROBERT MUIR

With the recent easing of some Covid restrictions, the opportunity to be in Mulwala and talk to various leaders of organisations and businesses was taken by local MP Justin Clancy on Monday, September 27.

The State Member for Albury visited Mulwala Water Ski Club to see first-hand some club extension works.

“Mr Clancy was keen to get a feel for how we and other businesses are travelling, and the community in general,” Mulwala Water Ski Club President Matt Holgate said.

“He was wanting to make sure we are aware that he is concerned and available to provide assistance where possible in our community and that’s appreciated.”

Ski club management took the opportunity to showcase the holiday park’s extension.

“We also showed Justin the modifications to our club extension area to accommodate new Covid spacing rules and plans for the deck to meet Covid rules,” Mr Holgate said.

Accompanied by Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke, Mr Clancy then had a tour of the munitions factory (Australia Defence Industries) in Mulwala – their first such visit.

General Manager at Mulwala, Trevor Gunn welcomed the visit and opportunity to discuss “quite a range of issues”.

“They were impressed with the size and capability of the facility,” the General Manager said. “Among the many issues we discussed was the cross-border bubble and the impact it has had on our workforce.”

It was then onto Mulwala Bakery where managers of several local businesses or key community committee members, including Mulwala Progress Association President Robert Purtle OAM, gathered to welcome Messrs Clancy and Bourke.

“It was good to see them both here in Mulwala, and it was appreciated,” Mr Purtle said. “Our special guests wanted to make sure the community realises they are aware of the hardship and will help in any way they can.”
