Cr Thomas not seeking re-election
In a shock announcement, Cr Bronwyn Thomas will not seek re-election on Federation Council.
One of council’s best performing councillors with mayor potential, the Mulwala-based councillor decided on Tuesday last week that she would not seek a second term as councillor.
“If there is one positive come out of these unprecedented times, it was the extra year extension to our term of being a councillor for Federation,” four-year termer Cr Thomas told the Yarrawonga Chronicle last week.
“This most fabulous experience has filled my personal development ‘cup’ to overflowing!
“It has been a journey that has allowed connections, conversations and engagement opportunities from the north to the south and outside our beautiful shire’s boundaries.”
Humbled to be elected in September 2017 to the inaugural Federation Council, Cr Thomas expressed a thank you to citizens, organisations, committees and individuals “for the key partnerships created”.
“As an elected councillor, you have the real meaning of listen, learn and provide commentary to delivering key outcomes for the community - what a privilege!” she said.
The advocacy role of being elected Chairperson for the Murray Darling Association Region 2 elevated her admiration for the importance of providing sound governance and transparency. “It has truly been a position that has allowed engagement of stakeholders to converse on Basin matters and provide recommendations that are reflective at a Local Government, State, Federal Government and inter-governmental agencies policy,” she said.
Cr Thomas’s four-year highlights include: Purtle Park Adventure Playground, 2647 survey for the placement of the Mulwala/Yarrawonga Murray River new bridge crossing, opportunity to support grass-roots’ organisations with their projects/concepts and ideas, and continuation of the roads/ rates and rubbish core council business narrative in providing influence of policy development for these.
“As I will not be seeking re-election, I would like to wish the second term of Federation Council all the very best,” she concluded.
Nomination as councillor for Federation Council opens October 25 and closes at 12noon on Wednesday, November 3.
