Vic Park dog rules settled
Although mentioned that a new bylaw had been introduced, council confirmed that residents had essentially always not been allowed to walk their dog specifically on Vic Park, but signs have now been erected to remind people of the rules.
The rules divide the precinct into three zones: 1. OFF-LEASH AREA – The Yarrawonga Showgrounds is designated as an area where dogs can be walked off their leads. The Showgrounds oval and the surrounding areas and tracks are open to walkers allowing their dogs to run free. 2. ON-LEASH AREA – All dogs within Victoria Park must be on a lead at all times, with walkers having their dog under control. 3. DOG NO GO ZONE – Dogs are banned from the playing fields and courts within Victoria Park. This is particularly relevant to Stan
Hargreaves Oval and the Junior Cricket Ovals and should eliminate players encountering dog poo while playing and training on the sporting fields.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club President Peter Brear said more knowledge about what can and cannot be done on Vic Park is welcomed by YMCC.
“The rules are very much welcomed by YMCC as it is very disappointing that too many thoughtless and selfish dog owners weren’t doing the right thing by the community,” Mr Brear said.
“There are now penalties that can be issued against these poor behaviours and it is great that the Council Ranger patrols regularly to keep an eye on proceedings.
“It is also a good opportunity to remind the keen golfers in the district that the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort is a major sponsor of “the Lakers” and we highly recommend popping over to their magnificent Driving Range to practice their swing.
“Cricket oval for cricket, golf club for golf. Simple.”
Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club (YMCC) has long lobbied for clearer rules for dogs on playing fields with Moira Shire Council recently erecting signage in Victoria Park on the matter.
