A coffee and welcome to town

- BY EMMA PRIOR

For new residents, just text ‘coffee’ to 0406 705 206 or call and leave a message. A member of Ignite Life Church will then call you back with details on how to get the voucher.

The church has recently completed a pamphlet drop and are currently brainstorming other ways to get the initiative out there.

Senior Pastor of Ignite Life Ministries Keith Walters said members of the church wanted to assist where they could and show new people what the twin towns have to offer.

“During covid we have seen an influx of people to town, and we want to welcome them to the community,” Pastor Walters said.

“We all know it is hard when you move to a new place, especially a smaller country town like Yarrawonga Mulwala so we wanted to reach out and welcome our new residents and assist where we can in contacting different services they may require.

“It is great for new people especially to have a point of contact, a reference point and we are happy to be that.

“Local businesses have also suffered throughout the pandemic in some capacity too, so we wanted to be able to help them out in this initiative as well. That’s why we have teamed up with Hard Luck Coffee Co, Tame Café, Thyme for Coffee and Belles for the ‘coffee for two’.

“We also have a connection with a number of businesses who we can put you into contact with for a number of different reasons.”

As well as welcoming new residents, the church also wants the community to know they are hear as a shoulder to lean on, even just for a chat through these hard times.

“We are also a community of people that care, and we recognise, in these difficult times, that doing life during lockdown has come at a cost,” Pastor Walters said.

“Covid has caused issues with communication, so we want to counteract that in a covid safe manner and get the communication flowing again.

“Mental health has really taken a toll this last year and a half. If anybody just needs someone to speak to, we want locals to know we are here.

“You or someone you know may need a helping hand or just a talk. Ring the number mentioned above and leave a message or text us and we will have a chat and help where we can.

“Lockdown for kids and teenagers particularly has been just as tough too so our R.I.O.T Youth meets on Fridays at 6.30pm.

“We just want to be able to bring the community back together again.”

New residents to Yarrawonga Mulwala will be able to get a free ‘coffee for two’ voucher through an initiative by Ignite Life Church to welcome the latest locals.
