Botts Road upgrade underway

- BY EMMA PRIOR

The project which is estimated to take 18 weeks will see underground pipes, kerb and channel be installed along the eastern side of the road and the land between the kerb and the fence to the Silverwoods development will then be landscaped and planted out.

General Manager Infrastructure Andrew Close said this project has been long overdue, and council are pleased to be able to allocate some of the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program funding toward fixing what is a long-standing road hazard for the users of Botts Road.

“Council has committed almost $1.2 million in funds - $950,000 of which is Federal Government grant money through phase two of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program - to piping the Botts Road drain and installing kerb and channel along the eastern side of the road,” Mr Close said.

“This is the first stage of works in upgrading the drainage line from the southern side of the Murray Valley Highway to the lake.

“The second stage of the drainage works are planned as part of the Botts Road – Murray Valley Highway intersection upgrade where a Gross Pollutant Trap is to be installed and the pipework extended under the Murray Valley Highway.

“Once approval of the intersection design has been received from Regional Roads Victoria, Council will be able to tender these works out.

“We are also pleased to announce that through Phase three of the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program the western side of Botts Road between Jane Road and the Murray Valley Highway will be getting kerb and channel and a concrete footpath installed

Botts Road is currently receiving its long overdue improving of pedestrian safety as well as aging drainage with works now underway.

in 2022 to improve accessibility and complete the concrete footpath between the Murray Valley Highway and the lake.

“Council, in its 2021-22 budget, has included a project to install kerb and channel and a concrete shared path along the west side of Botts Road from the Murray Valley Highway to Jane Road that will replace the current table drain and granitic sand path.

“This will complete the transition of Botts Road into an urban street.

“These works are being funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 3.

“This grant program from the Federal Government has been established to provide economic stimulus in response to the COVID crisis and it has enabled a number of valuable projects that would not normally attract grant funding to be undertaken to the benefit of the Moira community.”

The works are due to be completed by December 31 covid delays and weather permitting with local residents to experience detours throughout the works.
