Adrian Ridley off to World Championship

-

In a tremendous result, ClubMulwala Snooker Club member Adrian Ridley has played his way into the 2023 World Seniors Snooker Championships, which is being contested at The Crucible in Sheffield England from May 3 to 7.

To say this is an outstanding achievement in the snooker world is akin to suggesting that Yarrawonga is a reasonable place to live.

Adrian will be rubbing shoulders with and competing against former world champions of the sport including Jimmy White, Steve Hendry and defending champion Lee Walker.

This tournament is contested the week after the world championship in a venue that can only be accessed during world championship events, making it the equivalent of Augusta in early April for golfers and the MCG on boxing day for cricketers and the last Saturday in September for AFL footballers.

The ClubMulwala Snooker Club all wish Adrian well in his journey, which incidentally is his second world championship event having participated in the open title some years ago.

Club Challenge number 2 was contested on Monday, April 3 and Chris Page, making his first appearance for the year, took out the chocolates over Heie Hansen.

Chris gratefully pocketed the ClubMulwala vouchers after winning 4 frames for the evening and Heie played his usual very strong game throughout to make the final table.

Tony Cincotta took out Digger’s Tribute round on Monday, April 10 over the rapidly improving Martin Dermietzel. Tony is in very good form and had several good wins on the way to this victory.

Social nights were held on Wednesday, April 5, when Deb Harbrow claimed victory over Luca Macheda and April 12 which saw Michael Barclay defeating Dan Young to claim the winner’s voucher.

The Autumn Pairs event is being contested in teams of three this year due to high number of entries.

Teams will square off over the next few weeks in 9 singles matches per round meaning there will be much competition to identify the winners.

Early favourites are hard to pick but the team of Heie Hansen, Kev Young and Dan Young look like they have a good chance.

As can be seen on the ClubMulwala website and in its members newsletter, the snooker club welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try.

ClubMulwala sponsors the snooker club very generously so value for money ratio for players is very high indeed.

There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening and there are plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along to try the facilities out.

The snooker club have 2 excellently maintained full size tables, which have recently been re-surfaced and a new state of the art lighting system.

The snooker room is available for competition, practice and visitor use, and the club has its own regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginners to advanced level can compete equally.

There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players (including the current Oceania Masters champion) who can help with advice and tips on how to improve your game or perhaps adapt it for those who have played pub or social pool in the past.

Please contact the club on either 0497 062443 or 0418 361779 or visit on a Wednesday evening before 7PM if you would like to give snooker a try.
