Munich’s Museum Brandhorst is displaying a collection of works by the US painter, sculptor and photograph­er Cy Twombly (1928–2011). “Cy Twombly: In the Studio” is a retrospect­ive that ranges from the 1950s to 2011. A contempora­ry of Robert Rauschenbe­rg and Jasper Johns, Twombly was born in Lexington, Virginia. He was influenced by mythology and African tribal art, and he incorporat­ed calligraph­ic elements into many of his later paintings. Twombly moved to Rome in 1957, where he spent the rest of his life. The exhibition is open until 26 August 2018.
