A gyre is a slow, cir­cu­lar ocean cur­rent formed by the earth’s ro­ta­tion and winds. Our oceans have five ma­jor gyres and the North Pa­cific Gyre brings plas­tic to the cen­tre of the GPGP, where it is trapped and then builds up.
