“Apprentice” vs “trainee”

-

Both an apprentice and a trainee are taught the skills they need for a specific job. However, there is a slight difference. A trainee is usually a university graduate who undergoes a trainee programme of varying duration offered by an organization. An apprentice is someone who has finished school and is undergoing training in a company to learn the skills of their trade. “Apprentice” is translated into German as Lehrling or Auszubildende(r), whereas “trainee” is rendered as Auszubildende(r) or Praktikant(in).
