Gram­mar: The modal verb “could”

The modal verb could can be used in dif­fer­ent ways. One us­age is to ask for things po­litely. Look at these ex­am­ples from the di­a­logue:

Could we plan that into the next bud­get?

Could we also think of some­thing non-mon­e­tary?

Could can also be used to talk about sug­ges­tions or hy­po­thet­i­cal fu­ture sit­u­a­tions. Look at these ex­am­ples:

The pay rise could start from next year.

I could also man­age the new pro­cess­ing sys­tem.
