Grammar: The modal verb “could”
The modal verb could can be used in different ways. One usage is to ask for things politely. Look at these examples from the dialogue:
Could we plan that into the next budget?
Could we also think of something non-monetary?
Could can also be used to talk about suggestions or hypothetical future situations. Look at these examples:
The pay rise could start from next year.
I could also manage the new processing system.
