NGOS

Conflict, hunger, migration — these are some of the serious issues facing our world today. The good news is that there are thousands of NGOS (nongovernmental organizations) dealing with these challenges. But where can they find the right job candidates for this work? Swedish entrepreneur Magnus Bucht believes there is a role for a platform that helps people looking for jobs with NGOS, which is why he founded Impactpool. It matches international organizations with jobseekers wishing for careers at institutions working to make life better. Impactpool is simplifying the recruitment process for organizations such as UNICEF, Save the Children and the Red Cross. www.impactpool.org

FREELANCE WORK

“Freelancing is sexy now, it kind of feels like an adventure. But it will only stay hot if we manage to make it more secure,” says the French start-up Comet, which is building an international marketplace for talented tech freelancers. To help with its expansion plans, the company raised €11 million in May from two European venture capital firms, Daphni and Otium. How does it work? Companies upload their projects and the Comet team promises to match the right freelancers with the right job within 48 hours. What’s the business model? Comet charges companies a ten per cent transaction fee. Languages: French and English. www.comet.co
