Show off your skills
Applying for a job has never been easy. Today, you may need to write your job application with both robots and humans in mind. In this issue of Skill Up!, we’ve compiled the words and phrases that will help you move past the screening algorithms and still impress the people in HR. We cover the main aspects of the written job application.
In Word Bank (pp. 4–5), you can learn vocabulary for describing your skills, qualities and experience. The dialogues and written examples in the In Context section (pp. 6–11) present phrases for online applications and career profiles, as well as CVS and covering letters. The phrases from the extracts are listed in Phrase Bank on pages 12–13. In the grammar section (pp. 20–21), we focus on the use of prepositions with verbs and adjectives for your application. And try the Test exercises at the end of the booklet, on pages 22–23, to see how well you know the language presented in this issue.
Don’t forget to read the Skill Up! boxes for tips on how to improve your job application. You’ll find more such boxes in Business Spotlight
magazine.
