Career moves

Are you happy with how your career is developing? In this special issue, we provide tips for a career boost.

- IAN MCMASTER, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF i.mcmaster@ spotlight-verlag.de

How would you currently rate your career on a scale of one to ten, where ten means that everything is going perfectly and one means that you are desperately unhappy? Once we start to think about our career, there are many potential questions to be answered.

What do I really want to do? How can I make progress and increase my income? Should I be working more — or perhaps less? Should I take a break for a while? Should I be doing something completely different? And so on.

In this special issue of Business Spotlight, we devote many of our regular sections to these sorts of career questions. In our Business Skills section, Bob Dignen provides tips for your self-development. In our Intercultural section, Robert Gibson gives advice on working internationally. In our Easy English section, Mike Hogan shows you how to negotiate a pay increase. And in our main feature (pp. 12–24), Lois Hoyal looks at decisions you could take now in order to boost your career — including getting an extra qualification, working abroad, learning a new language or starting your own business. There’s much more, too. We look at the language of pay and benefits, discuss jobs of the future and provide tips on how to behave at your office Christmas party in a way that doesn’t ruin your career. We hope you enjoy this special issue and look forward to your feedback! PS You will find three free audio tracks relating to this issue by going to business-spotlight.de/hoerprobe. Look out for circles like this one in the magazine.
