Don’t confuse...
insulated, isolated
If an object such as a water pipe or a cable — or a room — is insulated, it is covered in, or protected with, a special material that stops electricity, heat or sound from getting in or out (isolieren, dämmen):
“If you insulate your loft, you can reduce your heating bills.” — Wenn du deinen Dachboden isolierst, kannst du deine Heizkostenrechnung reduzieren.
Figuratively, insulate can mean to “protect someone from negatve experiences”
(schützen, fernhalten):
“The president tried to insulate his family from the media attention.” —
Der Präsident versuchte, seine Familie vom Medieninteresse fernzuhalten.
If a person is isolated, they are separated from others, either geographically or because of their opinions (isoliert, getrennt): “His support for Brexit meant that he was isolated from his colleagues.” — Seine Unterstützung für den Brexit bedeutete, dass er von seinen Kollegen isoliert dastand.
If a location is isolated, it is far away from other places (abgelegen, einsam):
“He retired to an isolated farm” — Er setzte sich auf einer einsamen Farm zur Ruhe.
