Discussing the facilities

Rachel: Are you going to the international sales conference this year?

Tony: Yes. Are you?

Rachel: Yes. It will be my first time. And I’ve just been looking at the website of the hotel. It looks nice!

Tony: I haven’t checked it out yet. Where is it? Rachel: It’s a lovely spa hotel on the south coast. It has excellent facilities.

Tony: Well, we won’t have much time to use them. The programme is usually packed. Rachel: I intend to get up early and go for a swim before breakfast. There’s a large heated pool and some whirlpools, too. You can sit in them and let jets of water massage your back and legs.

Tony: I’d actually prefer a proper massage.

Rachel: You can have that, too, if you want.

A massage

Masseur: Which massage did you want, sir?

Tony: I wasn’t sure when I booked. I wanted to

discuss the options with you.

Masseur: If you’re not used to having a massage, I would suggest a classic Swedish massage, which can be relaxing or stimulating, depending on what you want.

Tony: Sounds good. What are the alternatives? Masseur: Our sports massage is to help people who play sports to keep fit and injury free. Tony: Probably not the option for a couch potato like me! Masseur: We also have a deep-tissue massage if you have stiffness and muscle knots.

Tony: I sit in front of my computer most days and I’m getting a stiff neck and shoulders. Masseur: It sounds as though the deep-tissue massage might be the one for you.

The pool and sauna

Tony: How was your early-morning swim? Rachel: Wonderful. It’s an infinity pool, so you can swim and look out over the hills at the same time. There’s also a choice of hot, steamy and cooler saunas.

Tony: I like the steam room. But it’s better to do that in the evening and have a couple of beers afterwards!

Rachel: How was the massage?

Tony: It was good — if rather painful. I think I should have had the less intense version. I feel like I’ve been run over by a steamroller! Rachel: But have your aches and pains gone away? Tony: They have — and been replaced by a few others.

A beauty treatment

Rachel: I was thinking of staying on after the conference and having a beauty treatment. Tony: Sounds like a good idea. Is it expensive? Rachel: It depends on the treatment. I’ve decided to have the basic facial and a body wrap. Tony: Body wrap? What’s that?

Rachel: You’re coated with a special mixture — mint and three tea varieties — which leaves your skin feeling softer, healthier and glowing.

Tony: You sound like an ad on the telly!

Rachel: I’m just quoting from the brochure.

Tony: And do you have the same mixture on your face?

Rachel: No. You have a face cleansing followed by a face mask. Then you get your face moisturized.

Tony: It all sounds very scientific and a bit messy! Does it work?

Rachel: You can see for yourself next Monday morning in the office...
