The trade-fair stand
Discussing ideas
Karim So, it’s decided then? We’re taking part in the Shenzhen Logistics Fair?
Josie: Seems like it. Marcus has booked one of the standard booths for us.
Karim: How big is that?
Josie: It’s not huge. It’s nine square metres and has some basic furniture. But as it will be just the three of us, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Karim: We’ll need to talk to Frank about how to design the stand. It should look and feel different to any competitors.
Josie: He’s usually full of ideas. Do you remember that stand he designed to look like the inside of one of our trucks? That was impressive. I’ll give him a call and see when he can meet us.
Setting up
Marcus: Karim, can you help me with the back wall? If you can hold it upright, I’ll fit the struts, so it’s stable. Then I’ll plug it in.
Josie: It was a great idea to have a wall map where we can light up our depots, our warehouses and our key shipping hubs.
Marcus: OK. Let’s plug it in and see if it works. Josie: Wow! That looks really good.
Marcus: Now, we just need to set up the front desk and the video display. Josie: Once we’ve set up the desk, I’ll get our brochures and unpack our freebies and giveaways.
Dealing with a visitor to the stand
Josie: Good morning, sir. Please help yourself to one of our brochures. Have you heard of our company before?
Visitor: No, I’m afraid I haven’t.
Josie: Globe Logistics has its HQ in Singapore and is one of the leading logistics and shipping companies in South East Asia. We also have a strong presence in China and South Korea.
Visitor: That’s interesting. We’re not very happy with our present logistics arrangements. We’re looking for a new distribution logistics partner with warehousing facilities. Josie: Why don’t you have a word with Marcus Laing, one of our key account managers? He’ll let you know what Globe Logistics could do for you.
Discussing the results
Josie: How do you think the fair went? Was it worth it?
Marcus: It certainly was. We’ve got one definite new client and about 20 leads. And the one definite is a real coup. Maxifruit are big. If we do a good job with their South East Asian operations, they said we can tender for their global distribution services next year.
Karim: I’ll start following up on the leads with some phone calls.
Marcus: See if you can get some appointments for Josie and me when we go to China next month. Chan can deal with any leads in South Korea. Liaise with him before you call anyone.
Josie: I’m having lunch next week with Maxifruit’s representative in Singapore. We went to the same school. He should be able to give me some tips for our dealings with Maxifruit headquarters.
Marcus: Excellent!
