How do you say “resort” in German?

In tourism, a “resort” is a place where people go for their holidays (Urlaubsort, Ferienort). We can also be more specific and describe a place as, for example, a “seaside resort” (Badeort) or a “ski resort” (Skigebiet, Ski(urlaubs)ort): ⋅

Aspen is a well-known ski resort in Colorado. — Aspen ist ein bekannter Skiort in Colorado.

If we refer to some action “as a last resort”, we mean it is something we will do if everything else fails. It is translated as als letzter Ausweg, als letztes Mittel or ⋅ im schlimmste­n Fall:

This treatment should be tried only as a last resort. — Diese Behandlung sollte nur als letztes Mittel versucht werden.

If you “resort to doing something”, you do something unusual, extreme or difficult because there is no other way to deal with a problem. It is translated as darauf zurückgrei­fen, ⋅ etw. zu tun:

During the power cut, people resorted to using candles. — Während des Stromausfa­lls griffen die Menschen darauf zurück, Kerzen zu verwenden.

How do you say Blick in English?

Blick means “something (attractive) that you can see”. It ⋅ is translated as view:

Vom Berggipfel aus hat man einen freien Blick auf die Stadt. — There is a clear view of the town from the mountainto­p.

In the sense of a facial expression that you make, Blick is translated ⋅ as look:

Der Polizist warf mir einen bösen Blick zu. — The policeman gave me a nasty look.

Ein kurzer Blick or schneller Blick is a glance. The expression auf einen Blick is translated as at a glance: ⋅
