Leaving a hotel
At checkout
Daniel: I’d like to check out, please.
Receptionist: Certainly, sir. What was your room
number?
Daniel: 322.
Receptionist: Thank you. Let me see. Room 322.
Mr Binder.
Daniel: That’s right.
Receptionist: I’ll just print out the invoice. One moment… Could you please check that everything is in order?
Daniel: Thanks. It all looks fine.
Receptionist: That will be €465. Would you like to settle that with the card you used to check in?
Daniel: Yes, please.
Receptionist: Could you put in your pin number, please, Mr Binder? Thank you. I’ll get your receipt.
Storing luggage
Daniel: Is there somewhere I could store this suitcase until later today? Receptionist: Certainly. We have a storeroom behind reception. I’ll just attach this tag to your case.
Daniel: Thanks. I have a laptop in my case. Will it be safe?
Receptionist: The only people who have access to the storeroom are hotel staff. It should be perfectly safe.
Daniel: That sounds fine. I’ll be back around three o’clock.
Discussing how to get to the airport
Daniel: I’ll be leaving for the airport around 5 p.m. What’s the traffic like at that time of day? I was thinking of getting a cab.
Receptionist: That’s rush hour. It could take you up to 90 minutes to get to the airport by cab at that time.
Daniel: What are the alternatives?
Receptionist: You could take the metro, which would take about 45 minutes. With your heavy suitcase, though, you may want to take a cab a few blocks to the main station. You can get a highspeed train from there to the airport. Daniel: I think that’s the answer. Can you book a cab for me for 4.45?
Receptionist: Certainly, sir. It will be in the taxi rank just near the hotel entrance.
Giving feedback
Front-of-house manager: Are you leaving now, sir?
Daniel: Yes, my cab should be here in a few
minutes.
Front-of-house manager: Was this the first time you’ve stayed
with us?
Daniel: Yes, it was.
Front-of-house manager: And how was your stay?
Daniel: It was good. The only slight complaint I have is that the window in the room can’t be opened fully. I’m not that keen on air conditioning. I like to have fresh air in the room at night.
Front-of-house manager: It’s a question of safety. We don’t want any children or objects falling out the window.
Daniel: I understand that. But even the upper louvres could be opened only a crack.
Front-of-house manager: I’ll make a note of your concern, sir.
Daniel: Otherwise, everything was fine.
