Every team is only as good as the sum of its parts. And when you have knowledge that can benefit the rest of the team, it’s important to share it. Both team productivity and relationships can improve as a result. And because people have little time, it is essential to share your knowledge effectively.

Question

As you read the following email and presentation, look for three things that Marcel does in each case to share his knowledge effectively.

Presentation

Marcel: Hi, everyone. As you know, I recently watched a webinar on why it’s important to share knowledge within a team and I shared those ideas with you in an email. Last week, there was a follow-up webinar on how to share information effectively.

They shared five main ideas in the webinar. First, set the context in a clear and understandable way. Then, be brief with the amount of information you’re sharing. Third, highlighting something important or surprising can make it more memorable. Fourth, offer a clear next step, such as how the team can use this knowledge to improve. And finally, offer further information, help or support to anyone who might need it.

For me, it was interesting to learn that sharing knowledge in a team can help to avoid or reduce the repetition of errors made by a team. I know this makes sense, but it’s good to have such a clear reminder.

So, I’d like to suggest that we use these five points and regularly share knowledge in our weekly team meetings. A different person could be tasked with sharing something each week. What do you think?

If you have any questions about the webinars or would like further information on this, just let me know.
