We’re there for only three days. Is it worth getting one of those?

They are £17 for ten single trips, so it would be more economical to buy one of those each. OK. Let’s do that then.

In the queue

Wow! It goes much higher over the river than I expected.

It looks worse than it is. And the so-called flight doesn’t take that long.

How long exactly?

If I remember correctly, it takes about ten minutes. But they speed it up a bit during rush hour, which is now.

I should be able to manage that. How many people does each car hold?

There are seats for about ten people, but there is also standing room for five or six people. I hope I get a seat! I’m not very keen on standing in a swaying cable car.

That shouldn’t be a problem. There are only a couple of people ahead of us. We’ll be in the next car.

It’s still moving. Is it safe to get on?

Sure. Hop aboard.

OK. Here goes!

I’m not sure whether to look at the view or stare down at my feet!

The view is fantastic!

Is that the Shard over there?

It certainly is. And if you look down there, you get a great view of the O2 Arena.

I went there for an Ed Sheeran concert once. And that’s the EXCEL centre over there, next to the water.

Oh. What was that?

Nothing to worry about. We just went past one of the towers holding the cables.

We’re on our way down now.

That wasn’t too bad, was it?

It was much better than I thought it would be. But it will be nice to feel solid ground under my feet again.
