FOCUS: AN ACTION PLAN
Take time to reflect on the seven areas of the model and identify where you should focus more to achieve your goals.
P.R.O.D.U.C.E. Purpose
Write down a 100-word purpose statement: what is the “Why?” that brings you to work? What are your goals and motivations? To what extent have these goals been reached? And what can you do to reach them better?
Relationships
Plan to spend 30 minutes every week for the next four weeks focusing on relationship-building. You can use the time to reflect alone, to talk with others and discover how they feel about you or to negotiate a new method of collaboration. Take note of the benefits of your actions and build on them.
Organization
Take 20 minutes to write down a short description of your role and your top five responsibilities. Share this with your manager, colleagues and other stakeholders. Use the insights from your conversations to focus your role more clearly for others.
Decision-making
Over the next month, keep a record of the decisions you and your team make, and the data and logic used to make them. Which data is most commonly used? Which arguments have more weight? What is generally not considered and why? Who has the most influence on decisions? Identify ideas that could optimize your decision-making.
Upshot
Analyse the next big success you have by listing all the factors that led to this upshot in two columns: those that you influenced directly and those that were independent of your actions. Identify new factors that you should consider in the future.
Continuous learning
Take 15 minutes to list additional knowledge or skills that would be useful in your role and the added value they would bring. Then write down an action plan for acquiring such knowledge and skills.
Energy
Imagine yourself as a health consultant, giving yourself advice on how to lead a healthier lifestyle: what you eat, how you exercise, how much you sleep and how you work (the ergonomics of your desk, the breaks you take, the length of your working day, etc.). What three tips would you give yourself? Define an action plan to put them into practice.
