SANTA RITA CASA REAL, A MAIPO JEWEL
Within the grounds of the world-renowned Santa Rita winery 40 minutes south of Santiago, Chile, Casa Real is a haven of peace and tranquillity.
The Santa Rita winery was founded in 1880, with both the original hacienda Casa Real and the beautiful surrounding parklands being declared National Historic Monuments in 1972.
Entering this 19th-century boutique-style hotel with its original period furniture, oil paintings and textiles is a little bit like stepping back in time. The manor house effortlessly integrates modern convenience with comfort, offering 16 elegant and airy rooms with soaring ceilings, smooth wooden floors and doors leading out onto wide verandas, each one offering a beautiful view of the park or inner courtyard. Hidden amid the gardens, you’ll find a swimming pool, a sauna, and gym.
HISTORIC PARKLANDS
Centario Park, in which Casa Real is situated, was designed by the French landscape gardener Guillaume Renner for the winery founder Domingo Fernández Concha, who wanted his summer house set in beautiful surroundings. Give yourself a treat and take a horse-drawn carriage ride past century-old trees, stone sculptures and a lake occupied by black-necked Chilean swans. Stop for a quiet moment in the stunning neo-gothic chapel, or get married there in fairy-tale surroundings. The chapel also holds seasonal concerts with world-renowned musicians performing for local school children and members of the public, including ambassadors, local dignitaries, and specialists in the fields of culture and music. For full cultural immersion, a visit to the Andean Museum is a must.
