ROUGE DIOR: THE STORY OF A LEGEND

In 1947, Christian Dior revolutionised the fashion world with a silhouette that became known as the “New Look”. Since then, this iconic combination of elegance, sophistication and almost architectonic style has dominated the catwalks and laid the foundations for the Maison’s success and its timeless legacy. His passion for red: “I love red. Red is the colour of life”, is reflected in his collections. With shades of red, such as “Rouge Eclatant” (Radiant Red) and “Rouge Satan” (Satan Red), the seductive red became the signature colour of the couturier, and he advised all women to wear a touch of it to light up their complexion and their style. Be it evening red, crimson, poppy or geranium red – the multifaceted variety of the shades of red has always been adorning the world of Christian Dior.

In 1949, under the motto to embellish women and their smiles, Christian Dior created the Rouge Dior lipstick in two shades – 9 and 99 for one of his fashion shows. The limited edition was sold exclusively in the Colifichets boutique, a small boutique at the foot of the staircase to his Couture Maison at 30 Avenue Montaigne. With its intense colour, the lipstick was perceived as an ode to the world of desire, an appeal to visual eroticism and, thus, quickly became the favourite accessory of many women. Rouge Dior also became a favourite for Hollywood legends such as Marlene Dietrich and Grace Kelly, who used it to emphasise their glamorous femininity.

Being an indispensable part of the fashion world, Rouge Dior became a symbol of the Maison. Since 1953, the Rouge Dior palette has comprised more than 1.500 shades. The first classic shades were followed by the vision of Serge Lutens, who introduced vibrant, expressive colours to the exciting era of the 70s. In 2014, acclaimed make-up artist Peter Philips stepped in as Creative director and is presently responsible for the development and design of the Dior Rouge lipstick. Peter Philips’ collections are renowned for his creative vision and sense of innovation, setting new standards with innovative textures and lasting formulas.

NEW ARRIVALS TO THE ROUGE DIOR WORLD

With his latest interpretation of the lipstick, Peter Philips once again demonstrates his intuition for a delicate combination of reinterpretation and the avant-garde heritage of the classics. With its unique red peony extracts, active floral ingredients and Velvet or Satin finishes for unrivalled comfort and perfect hold, the new formula is a true pinnacle of innovation. Rouge Dior Velvet envelops the lips with a matte look and rich, almost dramatic colour pigments. Thanks to a unique complex of three natural waxes, Velvet impresses with its blend of seductive softness and intensity. Shiny and fascinating in its colour nuances like silk, Rouge Dior Satin, on the other hand, bestows radiant colour and all-round suppleness with its sensual texture.

The new collection comprises 70 colours, each one unique and the result of years of expertise. The centrepiece of the palette? Four shades that portray four facets of the Dior muse.

999

The radiant red shade 999 is a tribute to Christian Dior’s first lipstick. Both in its name and in the classic, elegant sensuality of its colour, this lipstick is reminiscent of the first two limited edition versions. A timeless symbol of femininity and seductive glamour, Dior Rouge 999 is the epitome of Christian Dior’s timeless vision.

100 NUDE LOOK

Within 70 colours offered by Peter Philips, there is a versatile portfolio of nude shades. 100 Nude Look, a soft beige with a hint of pink that emphasises the natural lip colour, celebrates authentic femininity and refined elegance.

720 ICONE

As the name itself suggests, 720 Icone is a tribute to Christian Dior’s favourite colour. Closely associated with the very first creations, this lipstick expresses freedom, self-determination, courage and a sense of fulfilment by virtue of its brownish pink with a deep blue hue. 777 FAHRENHEIT

Flamboyant, lively orange-red – an iconic shade that epitomises the enthusiastic, bold and perhaps slightly eccentric Dior muse who confidently transcends conventions.
