The “Portemonnaie Tête” by Louis Vuitton
Durring the current season, the French fashion house cooperates with the Italian design brand Fornasetti. The result: wearable art with collector value.
Creative mind
The person behind the topical collection - how could it be otherwise - designer Nicolas Ghesquière, who has been responsible for the brand‘s women‘s collection since 2013 and has come up with a special twist for fall/winter 2021/22: the collaboration with the design brand Fornasetti, which is particularly well known to interior connoisseurs for its humorous use of historical motifs. “With this collaboration, I wanted to use the creations to highlight the ongoing modernity of Fornasetti‘s artistic world,” says the Frenchman.
Historical collaborations
Collaborations with other brands and concepts are nothing new for the Maison, whose founder Louis Vuitton († 1892) would celebrate his 200th birthday this year. Ghesquière‘s predecessor, the U.S. designer Marc Jacobs, regularly delights the creative support of prominent artists such as Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama, whose works still enjoy cult status today.
Retrospect and outlook
The designs themselves are not the only worth mentioning, for instance, the (letter) bag made of leather and monogram-coated canvas with the specific Fornasetti motif. Also, we must make a reference to the setting of the show. It was presented in front of the coulisse of the Michelangelo Gallery at the Louvre, which meant that by the integration of the sculptures on site the materials used could be reduced by 70 percent compared to previous years. This was a new beginning to the brand‘s modern sustainability strategy, which not only values the past but is also cautious about the future.
