Rebellious beauty
Owing to visionary materials and design language, Vhernier rebels against the conventions of traditional jeweler’s art. Isabella Traglio, Deputy General Manager, talks about the chic revolution.
Unlike any other brand, Vhernier manages to capture the spirit of the times and yet the pieces never just a trend ...
Vhernier was born with the clear intention of creating “the jewel that does not exist yet”: contemporary, distinct from anything else existing, and with an exceptional fit. We have always refused to follow the conventional codes of traditional jewelry design and have created our own recognisable style: bold volumes, clear shapes built around the body, and always with a certain idea of movement.
In the new “Coucher du Soleil” collection, the focus is on bronze - if you go by sport, only the third choice?
The use of bronze continues that innovative experimentation for which Vhernier is renowned and which led us to pave the way for the use of unconventional materials in jewellery. Precedents are that of ebony, kogolong, jet, rock crystal, just to name some and titanium.
How much time has to be invested in development here?
Creating the jewelry of tomorrow requires a lot of time, patience and also being comfortable with the risk of the unknown. Research is a luxury today because it involves a lot of risk-taking. But in the end, that’s what makes jewelry relevant.
Clearly, each region has its own preferences and not all markets react in the same way to shapes and materials. However, more and more customers from even the most traditional regions are turning to unusual materials, such as titanium paired to gold or stones as in our latest “Mon Jeu” collection which revisits one of the most classic pieces in jewellery – the chain–making it relevant for these ever-changing times.
Design and craftsmanship one makes no sense without the other - yet: what is usually the greater challenge in the realisation of new collections?
The biggest challenge, from our point of view, is to present something radically new that is totally Vhernier: bold, clear shapes, a flowing design ... And all these elements must be addressed and must find full expression both from the point of view of design and craftsmanship. Let us circle back to the zeitgeist: Today, jewellery no longer has to function in just one context only ...
Today the boundary between special occasion and everyday life is much less marked, we want to feel special every day. However, that doesn’t diminish the importance of it.
