“ALICE: CURIOSER AND CURIOSER”
Those who answer the call of the “Victoria & Albert Museum” can expect an imaginary journey into the fairy tale world of “Alice in Wonderland” according to the promising title. The theatrical show traces its evolution from manuscript to global phenomenon, exploring its 157-year history and its influence on all aspects of life, through to fashion.the exhibits include photographs by Tim Walker, costumes for the “Royal Ballet” and designs by Vivienne Westwood and Viktor & Rolf. “ROYAL STYLE IN THE MAKING”
A more convenient location could hardly have been found for the temporary exhibition: Since the summer, the orangery of “Kensington Palace” has served as a scene for the examination of royal fashion.the intimate relationship between fashion designers and the royal clientele is being inquired and the process behind historic creations is being revealed. Undoubtedly, the highlight is the bridal gown of Diana, Princess of Wales, which went on display at the Palace for the first time in 25 years, as well as the coronation dress of Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George VI. From the symbolic power of a coronation dress to the romance of a royal bridal gown, the impact on the careers of the creators is also illuminated and benefits for the take out on the world stage. “FASHION 2.021 ANTWERP - FASHION/CONSCIOUS”
The fashion museum in Antwerp is back! After a long break used to redesign the space, it is opening anew on the first weekend of September with two exhibitions, “E/motion. Fashion in Change” and “P.LACE.S - The secret of Antwerp lace”.the program is intended as a starting point for openair projects and as an invitation to discover fashion(culture) in Antwerp, city walks and activities on the theme of “global change and worthwhile transformation in the fashion world”. “IN AMERICA: A LEXICON OF FASHION”
As a rule,the“met-gala”starts off this year’s fashion show,which New Yorker “Costume Institute” has postponed from early May to mid-september due to the pandemic. While the glamorous party is always a star-studded media spectacle, the performance embodied by Andrew Bolton is no less noteworthy. As the name suggests, it is all about the origins and current renaissance of the American fashion industry, with a focus on young fashion designers who are driving the conversation about diversity, inclusion and sustainability in the industry. “NEW YORK CITY BALLET FALL FASHION GALA”
Another event this fall makes the fashion and culture enthusiasts pilgrim to New York: the Fashion Gala of “New York City Ballet”.the illustrious multitude of guests - including co-hosts Sarah Jessica Parker and Diane Kruger - should expect two world premieres. “CARTIER ET LES ARTS DE L’ISLAM. AUX SOURCES DE LA MODERNITÉ”
The exhibition at the “Musée des Arts décoratifs” shows the influence of Islamic art on the designs of the Maison Cartier from the beginning of the 20th century up to the present time. More than 500 pieces, among which jewelry and decorative objects by Cartier, masterpieces of Islamic art, sketches, books, photographs and archival documents, trace the origins of the jeweler’s fascination in oriental motifs.the exhibition explores the cultural context and the figure of Louis and Jacques Cartier, the two grandsons of the company’s founder, who played an essential role in creating a new aesthetic imbued with modernity.
