THE STREETS OF ITALY ARE PAVED WITH SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS

METROPOLE - Vienna in English - - WEIRD NEWS -

Italy is known for glitz and glamour, but now you may encounter some of this glow on the roads of the bel paese. In the past years, boars have increasingly caused traffic accidents in Italy. Cue the local authorities of the province Pavia in Northern Italy: To scare wildlife away, they are installing road markers with crystal reflectors at perilous sections. Swareflex, a subsidiary of the popular Tyrolean crystal maker Swarovski, is supplying the boar-repellent gems. Still in the experimental stage, the first delivery this spring will include 50 reflector posts with a total of 2,500 crystals adorning them. Certainly not a bo(a)re.
