Travel tip: the Blue Lagoon

Spotlight - - NEWS & VIEWS -

Summer may be leaving mainland Europe, but Malta’s seaside is still sunny and hot. The famous Blue Lagoon off the tiny island of Comino — between Malta and Gozo — is a magnet for those who follow the warm weather, and September is a fine, somewhat less busy time to visit this place of great beauty.

For the Knights of Malta, Comino was a place for hunting wild pigs and guarding St Mary’s Tower. The compact 17thcentury fortress remains an architectural highlight, easy to spot for visitors who sail there to experience the exquisite, crystal-clear bay edged by cliffs. Some of these rocks run down to the the Blue Lagoon — providing easy access for swimming or simply a pretty place to sit and take in the shining wonder of the sea.
