Spotlight - - LOST IN TRANSLATION -

Someone with “a chip on their shoulder” has a deep-seated feeling of resentment that comes from a sense of inferiority. It is often, though not always, associated with aggressive (verbal) behaviour. The closest general translation is probably einen Komplex haben, though that is, of course, somewhat too general. Other translations one finds in bilingual dictionaries, such as in reizbarer Stimmung sein or besonders empfindlich sein, might more or less fit particular contexts or situations, but are not good general translations.
