According to a recent study, people whose diet includes a lot of tea, fruit and vegetables are less likely to develop Alzheimer’s because these foods contain an antioxidant called flavonol. Dr. Thomas Holland of Rush University, Chicago, is the author of the study. He told the online journal Neurology: “With the elderly population increasing worldwide, any decrease in the number of people with this terrible disease, or even delaying it for a few years, could have an enormous benefit on public health.” Even among people who have suffered a stroke or heart attack, those who consumed more flavonol-rich foods were better protected against Alzheimer’s.
