CIRCLES IN THE SKY

Where did the universe come from?

Astrophysicist Professor Ray Norris hopes that a new discovery will help to answer this age-old question. The discovery, first detected by a new telescope in the Australian outback, is of something mysterious in the sky that scientists have named ORCS (odd radio circles). Norris told the BBC that nobody knows what they are, but his “best guess” is that they’re about a billion light years away and have a galaxy at their centre. Describing the discovery as “really exciting”, he said: “I’ve been waiting my whole life for something like this.”
