PIE AND MASH

London is the home of the pie-and-mash shop. These simple restaurants serve pies with a meat filling, a portion of mashed potato and a green parsley sauce known as “liquor”. Most pie-and-mash shops also offer eel — either stewed or jellied. The first of these working-class establishments opened around 1850.
