Let’s talk about feelings!
As we ease out of lockdown and are freed from the restrictions put in place to curb the pandemic, it seems we’re all thinking more about the way we feel. Some of us are simply happy that an end to Covid may be in sight; for others, the loneliness of social isolation – not to mention financial hardship – is still present. Whatever your current mood, you’ll find the vocabulary to talk about it in our feature beginning on page 48.
Speaking of moods, how could anyone not feel happy looking at our beautiful cover image? Pictured is a harbour close to St John’s, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Join us as we explore this delightful city on the eastern coast of Canada. “Fair weather to you!” starts on page 36.
I love to do home repairs – no object is too lowly for me to try to extend its lifespan with a bit of tape and glue. The results are mixed, but I don’t mind if a lamp sometimes blinks on and off, or if a plate has a “seam” down the middle. I enjoy the challenge and think that, for environmental reasons, we should all be fixing more of our possessions. It’s not always possible, of course, but thankfully, consumers are demanding a longer lifespan and the “right to repair” – especially for expensive electronic devices. Find out more about this topic in our feature “The right to repair – fixing the future”, which begins on page 24. curb , eindämmen device [di(vais] , Gerät ease out of sth. sich langsam von , etw. lösen, befreien glue [glu:] Klebstoff , hardship Not , lifespan Lebensdauer, , Haltbarkeit lowly gering, bescheiden , seam (Klebe)naht; , hier: Bruchlinie
