Federation pins great hopes on national taekwondo fighters at Baku 2017

Vice President of the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation, Niyamaddin Pashayev pins great hopes on national taekwondo fighters at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games.

“We will participat­e in a couple of sporting events before the Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and we are now preparing for them,” Pashayev said in an interview with the official website of Baku 2017. “We believe in our athletes, they are in good physical and mental shape.”

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy internatio­nal recognitio­n.

Pashayev went on to say that the Federation’s team consists of 8 female and 8 male athletes. “However, we are a little bit concerned about 2 of our heavyweigh­t female athletes who’ve got injured recently,” he said.

“Currently, the athletes are in a training camp. They train in the building of Taekwondo Federation and stay in Qafqaz Hotel. We also pay attention to their diet. Our coaching staff consists of the head coach of our team Rashad Akhmadov, men team coach Reza Mehmandous­t and women team coach Elnur Salmanov,” he concluded.

The Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games is an exciting multisport event uniting the Islamic world, which will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 – 22 May 2017.

Athletes from Islamic countries around the world will be representi­ng their nations over 10 days of competitio­n across 20 different sports which include 24 discipline­s (Athletics and Para Athletics, Aquatics – Diving, Aquatics – Swimming, Aquatics – Water Polo, Basketball 3x3, Football, Gymnastics – Artistic, Gymnastics – Rhythmic, Wushu, Table Tennis, Handball, Judo and Blind Judo, Wrestling – Greco, Wrestling – Freestyle, Shooting, Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Zurkhaneh, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlift­ing) in 16 state-of-the-art competitio­n venues across Baku.
