New Armenian provocations in Tbilisi, Riga critisized

- By Rashid Shirinov

The fact that all countries and international organizations recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an integral part of Azerbaijan greatly disturbs Armenia. Therefore, the Armenians constantly try to carry out provocations against Azerbaijan on the international arena. This time they did it in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

An exhibition titled “Revival” of seven young artists from the socalled “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” was opened in Tbilisi at Ayartun center of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.

Soon after that, the Georgian Foreign Ministry made a statement saying that holding of exhibitions, conferences or other events somewhere by any separatist regime, whether unrecognized so-called“NKR”or Abkhaz separatists is undesirable.

The ministry noted that Georgia itself suffers from separatism, and this event in Tbilisi was not organized by the government line.

Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia, in turn, noted that the relevant structures of Georgia were informed about this issue, and the concern of official Baku was brought to their attention.

Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Latvia prevented another Armenian provocation.

The exhibition titled “Armenia on old maps: 6th century BC - 20th century” was opened in the National Library of Latvia, where the Armenian Embassy, among other maps, attempted to exhibit a map with the territories of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia.

In this regard, Azerbaijani Embassy in Riga sent a note to the Foreign Ministry, the National Library’s management and had a meeting in the Latvian Foreign Ministry.

The embassy brought to their attention information on Armenians’ falsification of the region’s history, as well as the fact that international organizations such as NATO, UN, OSCE PA, EU, OIC recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and many regulations and resolutions were adopted in this regard.

The Azerbaijani Diaspora organization Ojag in Latvia also sent letters on the inadmissibility of demonstrating such a map, which violates the norms of international law.

Director of the Latvian National Library Andris Vilks expressed regret and apologized in his reply letter, noting that the library management was unaware that the content of the exhibition could violate the norms of international law.

Thus, the provocative map was excluded from the exposition, and the exhibition soon ceased its work.

Armenian diaspora often uses international exhibitions to distort the essence of the NagornoKarabakh issue and present this region of Azerbaijan as Armenian. However, Azerbaijan timely prevents such provocative attempts.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan by laying territorial claims on the country. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

To this day, Armenia has not implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the NagornoKarabakh and surrounding districts.
