Baku, Bratislava have big opportunities for trade, human potential
Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini paid a working visit to Baku on November 13.
The prime minister stressed that Slovakia intends to open an embassy in the shortest possible time.
"We consider this decision to be correct, as the representation will facilitate our cultural and economic exchange. I am also pleased that the Minister of Economy of Slovakia informed the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan that an agreement on the establishment of an intergovernmental commission between the two countries will be signed soon. This will bring the relations between two countries to a higher and more qualitative,” said Pellegrini.
He stressed that Azerbaijan is a country the economy of which has been dynamically developing over the past period.
"Azerbaijani and Slovak entrepreneurs can be confident that the Slovak government, working with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, as well as our Agency for Development of Investments and the Economy, will do everything to help further develop [cooperation] on many fronts," the prime minister said.
Pellegrini went on to say that Azerbaijan and Slovakia have big opportunities and human potential and trade area that creates a reliable basis for cooperation.
He said that the priority and promising areas for cooperation are alternative energy, the automotive, chemical and mining industries.
"However, economic cooperation cannot be limited to these sectors, and I am glad that among the Slovak companies which present here there are also the companies which work in the field of innovative technologies and other spheres”, he noted.
According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Slovakia for nine months of 2018 exceeded $20 million. Almost the entire trade turnover accounted for import of Slovak products.
