Azerbaijan doubts Pashinyan’s soberness in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement

- By Abdul Kerimkhanov

Pprocess that had begun. The demand for the involvement of Karabakh separatists in the negotiation process can only be regarded as an inadequate response to an unusual situation.

Pashinyan does not know how to cope with growing problems. After all, he thought that his revolutionary coming to power would automatically open all the doors of the East and West before him, and this would incline the world to pressure on Azerbaijan and the soonest legitimization of the outcome of the Karabakh war.

After nothing happened, investments were not received, and Karabakh did not become a side of the conflict, Pashinyan realized that he would have to decide all the problems himself and was frightened.

The result of fright was his insane and inadequate statements. Speaking ast the parliament, Nikol Pashinyan said that the Azerbaijani community of Karabakh had been participating in negotiations all this time.

He explains this by the fact that the Azerbaijani community of Karabakh participates in parliamentary and presidential elections in Azerbaijan. They are citizens of Azerbaijan, therefore, the president of Azerbaijan is elected including the Azerbaijani community of Karabakh. Thus, the president and the parliament of Azerbaijan have a mandate to negotiate on behalf of these people.

Responding to the openly provocative statements of the Armenian Prime Minister, political scientist Fikret Sadikhov said that Pashinyan’s statements are very frivolous and of a profanity character.

‘‘The separatist regime allegedly presents itself as an independent "state entity" that does not vote for the Armenian Prime Minister. In fact, these are the same separatists who at one time demanded to join Armenia. By the way, the Armenian parliament gave its consent to this "reunification" and this decision has not yet been canceled’’, declared Sadikhov.

He noted that the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh is an independent body, which has the full right to legally participate in negotiations in a bilateral format.

Political scientist stressed that Karabakh Azerbaijanis are full citizens of Azerbaijan and, accordingly, participate in elections.

Pashinyan knows who the President of Azerbaijan represents at the negotiations. He is also well aware of the question on the negotiating table in the first place. There is no doubt, the Armenian Prime Minister knows that the separatists will never become a side of the negotiations, and he will not succeed in evading responsibility for the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

Recently, political analyst Suren Sargsyan at a meeting with journalists said the desire of the Armenian side to include Karabakh in the negotiation process is almost impossible to implement. He added that Azerbaijan will simply not negotiate in this case.

Well, Pashinyan should learn adequacy from this political analyst.

But in order to achieve progress in the conflict settlement, the Armenian troops must withdraw from the occupied territories.

Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, Leyla Abdullayeva, called on the Prime Minister of Armenia not to escalate the existing situation with his statements, but to create a basis for negotiations to resolve the conflict, as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs emphasized in recent statements.

“It’s impossible to understand the stance of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, based on his statements. On the one hand, he speaks of the importance of creating peaceful conditions for resolving the conflict, on the other - trying to change the format of the negotiation process, trying to accuse Azerbaijan of “aggressive rhetoric” allegedly the country is preparing the population not for peace, but for war. The truth is that it’s not the “aggressive rhetoric” of Azerbaijan, but the aggressive actions of Armenia,” said Abdullayeva.

Today, Azerbaijan, despite the occupation of 20 percent of its territories and the presence of one million internally displaced persons, is negotiating with Armenia for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, she noted.

Abdullayeva added that Azerbaijan encourages the benefit and development that the conflict resolution will bring to the region.

She stressed that the sooner the Armenian Prime Minister understands the truth about the benefits the conflict resolution will bring to the region and specifically his country, the sooner he can realize the economic revolution promised to the Armenian population.

Abdullayeva called Pashinyan’s statement as "right approach", which was said in the Armenian parliament about the participation of the Azerbaijani community of NagornoKarabakh in the negotiations, as well as the words of his press secretary that members of the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh are citizens of Azerbaijan.

She noted that NagornoKarabakh and the adjacent areas are an integral part of Azerbaijan, recognized internationally and currently under occupation by the Armenian armed forces, and the entire international community recognizes members of the Armenian community living there as Azerbaijani citizens.

Abdullayeva stressed that the statements made by the Armenian leadership so far raise more questions than contribute to creating appropriate conditions for the regional development and ensuring peace in the name of welfare.

"This is the position of the leadership of Armenia. Naturally, all these useless comments do not at all help the appeals of the Armenian side to a peaceful resolution of the conflict," concluded Abdullayeva.
