AzerGold continues geological research in Kalbajar District
he geological exploration team of AzerGold company completed the first stage of geological exploration works in the site of the Tutxun precious metal deposits, with a total area of 85.56 sq. km, located in Kalbajar District.
According to the information received from AzerGold, the company conducted research-exploration works on an area of 8.29 sq. km (including Bashlibel-Khanlanli, OrujluAghyatag-Chorman)
cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA). The resulting test samples were sent to an international laboratory for analysis in order to determine their elemental composition.
The company noted that it is impossible to continue the geological exploration works on the Tutxun site because the area was contaminated with mines by Armenia during the 30year occupation. Negotiations on obtaining maps of mined areas are delayed due to Armenia's destructive position on this issue. For this reason, prospecting and exploration work is carried out only in areas cleared of mines. In order to continue the work in 2023, another 45.5 sq. km of territory will be cleared of mines by ANAMA and will be given to the geological staff of AzerGold to continue field research.
AzerGold CJSC uses innovative exploration methods to partially compensate for the loss of time required for demining.
In this regard, in 2022, non-invasive hyperspectral satellite images were captured for the first time in the Caucasus region in an area of 1,624 square kilometers, covering not only Kalbajar District, but also a part of Lachin District, and this process is being continued during the current year.
Tutxun is located on the territory of Kalbajar District, on the basin of the Tutxun River, on the right tributary of Tartarchay River. According to the study and digitalization of geological data of 1958-1960, the area is estimated to have gold, silver reserves, and industrially important copper metallization.
