The Project:

Title: Cultural Acclimatisers Sub title: Objects that inspire interactions and encourage users to adapt, value, and sustain existing traditions.

Description:

As globalisation, media proliferation and instant worldwide communication becomes the norm; cultural imperialism is perhaps even more significant now than ever before. This phenomenon has created a high risk for the younger generation to forget valuable traditions, get influenced and adopt new cultural practices.

By observing and analysing how people and objects interact in a cultural setting, this project uses adaptations as a tool to examine how existing objects can be adapted to serve new functions; how critically designed objects can help people acclimate to new cultures; and how acclimatisation itself can be a source of inspiration for new objects. The outcome of the project aims to eliminate the gaps created by modernisation towards cultural practices and helps to sustain the true values rooted within these traditions.
